University of Miami medical students
Family medicine resources at UMiami.
UMiami FMIG is a student-run interest group built to make family medicine opportunities easier to find and easier to use.
What can University of Miami medical students use FMIG for?
FMIG can be useful whether you already plan to pursue family medicine or are still deciding. The practical value is access: scholarships and travel funding, research and posters, clinical exposure, mentors, leadership, rural and underserved projects, health-tech work, and a clearer view of what family medicine careers actually look like.
Scholarships and conference funding
Our medical student scholarship tracker follows family-medicine-specific awards and broader funding such as NHSC, IHS, military HPSP, Pisacano Scholars, AAFP and FAFP programs, White Coat Investor, AMA Foundation, AAMC, and TYLENOL. The tracker includes dates and official source links.
Research, innovation, and projects
Students can use FMIG to find research collaborators, turn existing work into posters, explore rural and underserved medicine questions, or ask about TruCost Health projects in healthcare affordability, price transparency, access, data, product, and clinical review.
Career exploration without narrowing yourself too early
Family medicine is not one job. Physicians can practice employed outpatient medicine, own practices, build direct primary care clinics, add sports medicine or other focused training, work in rural communities, teach, lead organizations, or combine clinical work with health-tech and policy. Start with the family medicine careers page, then go deeper into DPC, sports medicine, and fellowships.
How to get involved
The fastest route is the UMiami FMIG interest form. Pick only the categories you want, and student leaders can route relevant opportunities rather than sending everything to everyone.
